Before
AfterHow much does it cost to repair a gutter leak?
The cost of repairing a gutter leak depends on where the leak is, what's causing it and how easy it is to reach. A leaking joint on a single-storey gutter is one of the smallest gutter jobs; a crack in an upper-storey cast iron gutter takes longer and costs more.

What causes most gutter leaks?
Most gutter leaks come from one of four places, and the cause sets the cost of the fix:
| Cause | Typical fix |
|---|---|
| Perished seal in a joint | Replace the union or reseal the joint |
| Blocked outlet or gutter | Clear the blockage; water was overflowing, not leaking |
| Cracked section or corner | Cut out and replace the damaged part |
| Gutter has lost its fall | Re-fix brackets so water runs to the outlet |
Joints are the most common source. The rubber seals in uPVC gutter unions harden and shrink with age and sunlight, so water slips past them.
Why does the gutter material affect the price?
The gutter material affects the price because each one is repaired differently. uPVC joints can usually be swapped quickly using standard parts. Cast iron joints need the old sealant cleaned out, new sealant applied and the joint repainted, which takes longer. Older or unusual profiles may need a matching part sourced, which also adds time.
Does the height of the leak matter?
The height of the leak matters because upper-storey gutters need longer ladders, ladder stand-offs or an access tower. A leak above a conservatory or extension is also harder to reach. Many homes in Paignton sit on sloping ground, so the same gutter can be at very different heights on the front and back of the house.
Is it cheaper to fix a leak quickly?
It's usually cheaper to fix a leak quickly, because a small leak can soak the fascia behind it and the wall below. If the fascia rots, the brackets lose their grip and the repair becomes much bigger. Coastal air in Paignton also speeds up rust on metal brackets that stay wet.
Can a leak be fixed at the same time as a clean?
A leak can often be fixed at the same time as a gutter clean, if the contractor has the right parts. Some apparent leaks turn out to be overflow from a blocked outlet, which a clean solves. Mention the leak in your request so the contractor comes prepared. See gutter cleaning.
