Do roofers replace guttering?
Yes, many roofers replace guttering, especially as part of re-roofing or fascia work. For gutter replacement on its own, roofline and gutter specialists also fit new systems and are often the most practical choice.

Tip: a line or two more about the job (which side of the house, how long it's been happening, any tricky access) helps contractors quote accurately.
When does it make sense to use a roofer?
It makes sense to use a roofer for gutter replacement when the roof also needs work. If you're re-roofing, replacing the roof edge or fixing tiles at the eaves, the roofer can fit new gutters at the same time while scaffolding is up. That avoids paying for access twice and makes sure the roofing felt and the new gutter line up correctly.
Who else replaces guttering?
Two other types of contractor replace guttering:
- Roofline specialists replace fascias, soffits and gutters together. They're a good choice when the timber boards behind your gutters are rotten or you want low-maintenance uPVC throughout.
- Gutter specialists focus on gutters and downpipes, including cleaning, repairs and replacement. They're often quickest to book for gutter-only work.
Many firms in Torbay do more than one of these, so the line between them isn't fixed.
Does the type of gutter change who you call?
The type of gutter can change who you call. For uPVC, most roofers, roofline firms and gutter specialists can supply and fit a new system. For cast iron, often found on Victorian and Edwardian homes around Old Paignton, Polsham and Roundham, ask whether the contractor has fitted cast iron before, as it's heavier and needs sealing and painting. For seamless aluminium, look for a firm that forms the gutter on site.
Should you replace fascias at the same time?
You should consider replacing fascias at the same time if they're soft, rotten or flaking. New gutters need sound boards to fix to, and doing both together saves a second set of access costs. Homes close to the seafront in Paignton are exposed to salty, damp air, which can shorten the life of painted timber fascias.
What should you ask before choosing?
Before choosing a roofer or gutter specialist, ask:
- Which material and profile do they recommend, and why?
- Will they check or replace the fascias?
- How will they reach the gutters, and is scaffolding needed?
- What guarantee comes with the gutters and the fitting?
- Do they have public liability insurance?
If your home is listed or in a conservation area, also ask whether they've checked what Torbay Council expects.
