How much does it cost to replace a part of a gutter?
The cost of replacing a part of a gutter depends on which part it is, the gutter material, how high it is and how many parts need replacing. A single corner, outlet or union on a uPVC gutter is usually a small job; several parts on a high or cast iron gutter cost more.

Tip: a line or two more about the job (which side of the house, how long it's been happening, any tricky access) helps contractors quote accurately.
Which gutter parts can be replaced on their own?
Most gutter parts can be replaced on their own, without changing the gutter lengths. The parts that most often need replacing are:
| Part | What it does | Common fault |
|---|---|---|
| Union (joint) | Joins two lengths of gutter | Seal perished, dripping |
| Corner (angle) | Turns the gutter round the house | Leaking seal or cracked |
| Outlet | Lets water into the downpipe | Leaking or blocked |
| Stop end | Closes the end of a run | Leaking or knocked off |
| Bracket | Holds the gutter to the fascia | Loose, broken or rusted |
| Downpipe fittings | Offsets, shoes and clips | Split, disconnected or loose |
What affects the cost?
Four things affect the cost of replacing a gutter part: which part it is, what the gutter is made of, how high it is and whether access is easy. A uPVC union on a single-storey gutter is quick to change. Parts on upper floors, above conservatories or on steep, sloping plots, which are common in Paignton, take longer to reach safely.
Can you get parts for older gutters?
You can usually get parts for older gutters, but it depends on the profile. Common uPVC profiles have been made for decades, so matching parts are easy to find. Older or less common profiles may need an adaptor. Cast iron parts for Victorian and Edwardian homes, such as those around Old Paignton and Polsham, are still made, but they need sealing and painting once fitted.
Do rusted brackets need replacing near the coast?
Rusted brackets near the coast often need replacing, because salt in the air speeds up corrosion on metal brackets and screws. On homes near the seafront in Paignton, Preston and Goodrington, a contractor may recommend replacing all the brackets along a run with corrosion-resistant ones, rather than just the one that failed.
When does replacing parts stop making sense?
Replacing parts stops making sense when several fittings are failing at once, the gutter lengths are brittle or cracked, or leaks return soon after each repair. At that point, a new system is often better value. See gutter replacement and how often gutters should be replaced.
How do you get a quote for a gutter part?
Get a quote by telling contractors which part is faulty, what the gutter is made of and how high it is. A photo from the ground helps them bring the right part. If a whole length is damaged, see how much it costs to replace a piece of guttering.
